Lesson: Students' Oral History Project

MAIN CONCEPT:

To produce a class publication compiled of each student's oral history project interview essay.

OBJECTIVES:

MATERIALS:

PROCEDURES:
  1. Having read various biographies and autobiographies throughout this unit, the students discuss and compare the effectiveness of these essays.

  2. The teacher shows an example of the finished product to the students and explains what is expected of each student.

  3. Students write a first draft of the interview.

  4. Learners work with a partner to edit and revise their essays.

  5. With the teacher's help the students will edit and rewrite the interview essay.

  6. The learners read their essays to a classmate. Discussion follows the reading of each student's essay.

  7. Students select a title and decide on the design and lay-out preferred.

  8. Using the computer each student types the interview essay, spell-checks it, and prints it.

  9. The student selects the photograph which he/she would like to scan onto the essay. The teacher demonstrates how the scanner is used to place the photo next to the essay.

  10. The essays are compiled into a class publication for distribution.
EVALUATION:

Upon conclusion of this Oral History Project, an evaluation session by the students will take place in the classroom.
Upon conclusion of this Oral History Project, an evaluation session by the staff will take place during a staff meeting.
